Caged Quail

$425.00
sold out

16x20in
Acrylic on Canvas

My Brittany Spaniel dog, Mako, comes with me just about everywhere I go.  Frequently we are stopped by individuals who used to own Brittany Spaniels, but rarely do we run into individuals who currently have one.  A lot of this has to do with the declining numbers of wild quail in NC.  Brittany’s are bred for upland bird hunting, and the sport was big in NC not too long ago.  Unfortunately, habitat loss and mismanagement of predictors has taken its toll on wild quail in North Carolina.  Declining wild quail has a lot to do with the decline in Brittany Spaniel owners.  Hearing the stories from previous Brittany Spaniel owners is remarkable. Their is nothing like watching a Brittany come to a haunting stop and lock point on a quail.  I feel lucky to have been a part of this story and culture that seems to be quickly leaving us.  Nowadays, quail are often raised in captivity in NC since their numbers are declining.  So that being said, here are some quail depicted artistically in their crate.
